Zack Is Back
I can’t remember how long ago I said that Zack Snyder should create a film for Netflix, but I’ve said it often and loudly! Now, Zack Snyder is back in the director’s chair. Returning to his horror roots from his Dawn Of The Dead film debut, he’ll be directing another Zombie film. Only this time, it’s Army Of The Dead, a sequel to his first film. This film was in development for Zack before he took on Watchmen. Now, it will be released by Netflix and begin shooting this summer. Zack stated:
“There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one.”
When talking about how this film would compare to his latest stories featuring superheroes:
“I thought this was a good palate cleanser to really dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way. I love to honor canon and the works of art, but this is the opportunity to find a purely joyful way to express myself though a genre. It will be the most kick-ass, self-aware — but not in a wink-to-the-camera way — balls-to-the-wall zombie freakshow that anyone has ever seen. No one’s ever let me completely loose [like this].”
If you can’t tell, Snyder is very excited about this film. And it looks like he already has some newer ideas he’s come up with:
I love big action, I love big sequences. My movie brain starts clicking around and I was like, ‘We need to be shooting this now!’ Constructing these sequences really fired me up.”
Being able to work with a smaller crew and budget means he’ll be able to utilize what he really likes about making films. The art of camera and technique:
“When the movie gets super big, you get pushed away from the camera. And in the last few years I’ve had a reconnection with photography. This movie will be a chance to get the camera in hand.”
Army Of The Dead
Will be set in Las Vegas that had to be contained to stop the outbreak of zombies. During which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
