Warner Bros. have been teasing a return to The Matrix for years now, with the most recent rumour claiming Michael B. Jordan would star in the reboot, but nothing ever came of it, until now, when out of the blue Warner Bros announced Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Ann Moss and Lana Wachowski have all signed on to return to The Matrix.
According to Variety, Wachowski will direct the film and co-write the screenplay with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. It’s unclear if Lilly Wachowski, who helmed the original trilogy with her sister, will have a part in the new film.
Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich:
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana. Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”
Lana Wachowski said:
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
The idea of having Keanu, Moss and Lana Wachowski back for The Matrix 4 will already have fans anticipating its release. I wouldn’t be surprised if more familiar faces from the original trilogy return also.
No details have been revealed on what The Matrix 4 will be about or when it will hit screens, but the film is expected to begin filming early next year.
