Matt Reeves’ The Batman has found its Dark Knight in English actor Robert Pattinson.
The 33-year-old is said to be the front-runner for the role, just edging past fellow English actor Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class). Variety reports the deal isn’t finalised yet, but Pattinson is expected to sign on the dotted line shortly.
Pattinson will become the second youngest actor to play the character, Christian Bale who portrayed the Caped Crusader in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy still holds onto the record. Funnily enough, Pattinson recently signed on to star in Nolan’s next film, which is currently untitled and set for a summer 2020 release.
Reeves is polishing his script, with pre-production slated to begin this summer. On this week’s THR Heatvision Newsletter they claim The Batman will include the Penguin and Catwoman, however, they’re not exactly clear on just how many villains from the Dark Knights rogues gallery will appear in the film.
Pattinson has done everything in his power over the last 7 years to shed off his Twilight image and doing so has become something of an indie favourite, check him out in The Lost City of Z or Good Time. He has a few others which I’ve yet to set eyes on, but with the hype surrounding his casting I’ll no doubt dive into more of his recent work.
