‘Rocketman’ Director Dexter Fletcher To Helm ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’

Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher will helm Sherlock Holmes 3 for Warner Bros. according to Variety.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson. Chris Brancato (Narcos) is penning the script, while Susan Downey, Joel Silver, Dan Lin and Lionel Wigram are producing.

For years there had been talk of a third Sherlock Holmes film starring the two, with Guy Ritchie expected to helm. However, RDJ involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe got in the way of that happening.

With the MCU in his rear-view mirror, he is now free to finish off what he started as the super sleuth. It’s surprising Ritchie isn’t returning, the two previous films had his distinct style all over them, will Fletcher be able to replicate that? I don’t know! But he is a cracking filmmaker in his own right and not scared to step in and get his hands dirty after replacing Bryan Singer during the filming of Bohemian Rhapsody.

The untitled 3rd Sherlock Holmes is set to hit screens on December 21, 2021.
