Following on from yesterday’s Mortal Kombat casting announcement, today sees two new actors join the cast.
Per Variety, Chin Han (The Dark Knight) is set to play Shang Tsung and Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine) will play Scorpion in the upcoming film reboot for New Line.
Shang Tsung is a powerful, deadly sorcerer and a primary villain in the Mortal Kombat franchise, Shang Tsung is a shape-shifter who needs to consume souls in order to sustain his health and life
As for Scorpion, that’s the alias of Hanzo Hasashi, formerly one of the finest warriors of the Shirai Ryu, a Japanese ninja clan. After he was killed by Sub-Zero, a member of a rival clan of Chinese assassins known as the Lin Kuei, Scorpion became a hellspawned revenant residing in hell (later the Netherrealm) and seeking vengeance against those responsible for the destruction of his clan and the death of his family, including his wife Harumi and his son Satoshi.
The cast for the James Wan produced film is filling out fast, Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Sisi Stringer (Mileena) and Lewis Tan who’s in negotiations to play an undisclosed lead character.
Mortal Kombat is based on the video game franchise which centers on a group of highly-skilled fighters recruited from different realms for the ultimate fighting tournament.
