Margot Robbie has just confirmed that the highly anticipated Birds of Prey movie is set to start shooting in January of next year.
In an interview with the Flickering Myth Margot Robbie not only gave us confirmation on when production for the film will start but she also provided some other information on the upcoming project that should whet the fans appetite.
Robbie didn’t shy away from giving us a small peak of what’s to come as she claimed the film be “R-Rated” and it will have a “much smaller budget” compared to the previous DC films.
It’s important to note that not only will Margot Robbie be reprising her role as the iconic Harley Quinn character in this film but she’s also co-producing the project at the same time. Given Robbie’s passion for the character and that she has multiple projects focused on Harley Quinn in the works, she’ll be closely working with director Cathy Yan in helping further develop both this character and the universe.
Birds of Prey will provide us with our first chance to see these heroines team up on the big screen for the first time. It’s easy to see why so many people are looking forward to this film as it won’t only be an important DC film but it will be crucial for the genre as a whole going forward by showing that you can have team up movies which solely focuses on female characters.
As of right now apart from Margot Robbie we don’t have any confirmation on who else is set to join her in this film. The main members of the team are Batgirl, Black Canary, Huntress and Lady Blackhawk. Be sure to expect some casting news throughout the year, especially for Batgirl which will be huge. Given the size of the team it will be interesting to see who they will go with for the movie outside of the 4 main characters because the group has gone through many iterations in the comics.
Birds of Prey is set to be Directed by Cathy Yan and is written by Christina Hodson
