HBO Max ‘s Head of Original Content Sarah Aubrey has revealed the first plot details about Greg Berlanti’s upcoming Green Lantern TV Series for WarnerMedia’s new streaming service.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour she said:
“It’s going to span several decades on focus on two stories about Green Lanterns on Earth” as well as one in space “going into the Sinestro story.”
Sinestro is the archenemy of Hal Jordan. Sinestro is a former member of the Green Lantern Corps who was dishonourably discharged for abusing his power. He gave himself over to the fear-based power of a Yellow Lantern and founded the Sinestro Corps.
If I was to hazard a guess, the series would explore how Sinistro went from being a promising Green Lantern back in the day, to his villainous ways in the future, battling it out with Hal Jordan and co.
Hal Jordan hasn’t yet been confirmed as one of the Lanterns the show is going to use, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t go down that route considering the history between him and Sinestro. The other, I’m not so sure of as there’s plenty of great Earth-based Lantern options they could choose from in John Stewart, Guy Gardiner, Kyle Rayner, Simon Baz, Jessica Cruz and Alan Scott.
They could easily chop and change the Lanterns over the years if they wished, this would help keep the show fresh and tell new stories. Which Lantern pairing would you like to see on the series?
