With the success of last year’s Venom, Sony is gearing up for their first sequel in the SUMC (Sony Universe of Marvel Characters).
Kelly Marcel was hired earlier this year to pen the script, and last week it was reported Sony had narrowed their search down to three directors to helm the sequel, with Andy Serkis (Mowgli), Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) all in contention.
At the time there was no clear frontrunner, but actor Tom Hardy, who stars as Eddie Brock/Venom took to Instagram and posted a picture of Serkis, before quickly deleting it. Weird, I know, but now many suspect Serkis has landed the gig.
Did Hardy mess up and jump the gun on the announcement? Or is he stating his preferred choice? Perhaps he’s taking the piss? We’ll know shortly.
