What very few know is that Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta aka Lady Gaga first studied in Drama School at Collaborative Arts Project 21, through New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She wanted to be an actress way before she wanted to be a singer, a songwriter. An artist of her own.
She got various opportunities by playing little parts in movies like Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Years later she got leading roles in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Hotel as Elisabeth, a character that brought her very first Golden Globe, and in American Horror Story: Roanoke as Scáthach.
But her already successful career would increase with A Star Is Born. She would be reborn.
It all began when Bradley Cooper decided to direct his first project, the third remake and modern version of A Star Is Born.
Cooper saw Gaga perform at a Cancer benefit in Los Angeles in April 2016 where she sang Édith Piaf’s ‘La Vie en Rose‘. He was “blown away“, truly enamoured by her performance.
Smitten, Cooper contacted her agent and they met in person the next day. He pretty much offered her the part of Ally on the spot! During their one on one, they shared this magical moment: Ally and Jackson were born.
Bradley had to shoot several screen tests to convince Warner Bros that Gaga could, and should, play Ally. Thanks to that fight we all know how was the final result.
A Star Is Born is a film that shows us how the music industry works, capable of manipulating artists just to make money out of their essence, the difficult life of a musician who is addicted to alcohol and drugs, how Ally evolves thanks to Jackson Maine and doesn’t let the industry to change her and how Jack tries to be better and supports Ally. But above all, the precious relationship Bradley and Gaga have built during the whole process of doing a successful movie that reached and touched a lot of people.
This could be a new starting point in Lady Gaga’s life, a new phase, a new era. Her dream of becoming an actress has just begun and if she decides to continue the future looks bright. As a long time Lady Gaga fan myself, I would love her to do cinema from time to time while keeping her singer/songwriter career like she has been doing all these years.
Whatever she decides to do, surely it will be unforgettable.
